Independent Reading Response #11

Harry told his cousin’s family to leave their house because Voldemort will kill them. At first they didn’t strongly want to leave because they never believe in wizard and magician. When it’s time to leave the house, Harry knows that this will be the last chance to see them but he didn’t feel anything. However, Dudley Dursley who always bullies Harry suddenly brings his hand in front of Harry and says “See you again” and Harry feels something warm inside.

This made me really surprised. I never thought Dudley has manner like this. He had kept bullying Harry and always done what Harry doesn’t want. It thought Dudley is fat like big pig and greedy boy. I hated “Mr. Bully” until I read that part. Only one action and one word changed not only Harry’s thought but also mine too.

Independent Reading Response#10

I started reading new book named “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. This is the final story for Harry Potter series. Why I chose this book is that I had read all series except last one and I had heard that one of the three main characters, Harry, Ron, Hermione, are going to die. I’m really curious who’s going to die. I prefer that Voldemort who’s enemy for Harry will be killed by Harry and there will be a happy ending.

Independent Reading Response #9

I finished reading Angels in Pink Kathleen’s story. The end of the story, Kathleen’s mother had operation. Before her mother had operated, they talked about what would happen. Her mother told her that if she died, Carson’s parents would take care of Kathleen.

When I read this, I was thinking why Kathleen’s mother told Kathleen that Carson’s parents would take care of her. I thought Kathleen’s mother and Carson’s parents don’t know each other and even though Carson and Kathleen are couple, they are still young so they might break up in the future. If I were Kathleen’s mother, I would cousin to take care of Kathleen because they know her since she’s a baby.

I think you want to know the result after Kathleen’s mother took an operation. I know the end of the story but I’m not going to tell you what happened in the end. If you want to know it, you should read this book and there are 2 more series, so I would like to read them someday.

Independent Reading Response #8

Now, it’s almost end of the story. After Kathleen had dinner with Carson and his family, she went back to home and she found her mother was lying on the floor with no breath. Later, an ambulance came and pick her mother’s up to bring at hospital.

When I read this, it reminds me when I was about 7 years old. On that time, my grandfather had cancer and there was no way to cure it. He was allowed to stay at home because he said he wanted to stay at home as much as he can. And one day, I don’t really know what happened to my grandfather because I was sleeping in the morning but the siren of ambulance woke me up. I ran to the front door of my house and I saw the ambulance with red-light. Then my grandfather was carried into the car. It was really scary for me and I couldn’t stop thinking what if my grandfather would die. So I can feel the way Kathleen felt when her mother had carried by the ambulance. I hope no one has like that experience and will not have same experience with me and Kathleen. However, if you face to that situation, I want you to stand with it.

Independent Reading Response #7

I’m still reading “Angels in Pink Kathleen’s Story” written by Lurlene McDaniel. In the story, Kathleen and two of her best friends named Holly and Raina were talking about how’s going with Kathleen and Carson because if Holly and Raina don’t ask about it to Kathleen, she is going to keep things that happened between them as a secret. However, Kathleen believes them so she told them everything that happened.

When I read that part, I was thinking how they could believe each other so strongly. Don’t they want to keep their secrets in their mind? I have best friends too, but I don’t usually tell what happened to me or minds that I have. It doesn’t mean that I don’t trust them but sometimes I feel things that happened to me aren’t their business. If they want to know or care about me, they will ask me what’s wrong with me or what happened to me and so I can tell them everything. However, sometimes I worry what if my best friends betray me and it always makes me don’t want to share my businesses. So I couldn’t understand why Kathleen and two of her friends always talked about secret things each other. I think they can refuse to talk about their secrets.

How about you? Are you the kind of person who always tells about yourself to best friends even if it’s secrets?

BLOG REFLECTION

I would like to continue BLOGGING because it was easy to share my experiences or stories to not only students who’s my partner but also other students or everyone in this world. I got a few comments from students in RIST and Gr.12-1. When I saw it at first time, I felt really exciting so, I want to keep BLOGGING.

On next time, I probably write Independent Reading Response about more what I feel, what I predict, and what I infer etc… because last time, I mostly wrote about my experiences that relate with the book. Writing my experience was fun for me because it was easy to write about and I thought it makes others interest. However to improve my response, I should use every form as I said before.

My response s to my partner wasn’t better than my Independent Reading Response so I should more care about it. My partner’s comments were fun because they gave me their connection of the story and sometimes questioned to me which made me thinker.

6th Independent Reading Response

Corson invited Kathleen to have dinner together including his parents. Kathleen didn’t have good clothes to wear for the dinner, so she asked her friends, Holly and Raina, to borrow their dress. After she borrowed a dress, she had dinner with Corson and his parents. She found out that Carson’s cutie came from both of parents and he has only good part of parents’ face.

When I read this part, I was thinking about Kathleen’s dress that she borrowed from her friend. I didn’t think that they have same body shape and height. However, it’s good for them because they can share every clothes if they need so that they don’t need to buy new one. I like the idea that they have because I can save my money. Sometimes I borrow t-shirt for pajama when I stayed at my friends’ house. Do you do like Kathleen did in the story?

5th Independent Reading Response

After Kathleen and Carson became a couple, one day he brought a dinner for Kathleen and her mother. That was the first time of his meeting with her mother. At first time when her mother saw him with pizza, she thought he wanted only Kathleen to have dinner with him so she tried to go upstairs. However he invited her to have dinner with them. While he stayed Kathleen’s house, her mother tried to walk without Kathleen’s help. Also she tried to do many things by herself.

In my opinion, I think this is good situation for Kathleen and her mother because Kathleen always had problems with her mother like she usually doesn’t want to walk by herself and always asks Kathleen to help her. However after Corson visits, everything is changing to good way. I predict that her mother will get better and she won’t need wheelchair to move around. Also I think Corson will invite Kathleen to meet his parents too.

4th Independent Reading Response

Corson invited Kathleen to go into premise of his house because he wanted to show an event. Kathleen was worrying about what if he’s going to kiss or do something more to her and actually she was expecting him to do it.

The event that he wanted to show to her is a firework. And the place where he brought her to is the best place to watch it. After that Corson and Kathleen became a couple. Since that day Carson called her every night which made her surprised because before they became a couple he’d never called her.

I don’t understand why some boys change suddenly like Carson. From my experience, I knew two types of boys. One of them is like before me and he became a couple, he always called, chatted, or sent message to me and after we became a couple, he does same things as before but it’s less than before. It made me feel anxious like why he doesn’t talk to me like before or he might not like me as before.

Another one is like a Carson, before we became a couple, he didn’t call, chat, and send message to me but after he became my boyfriend, he started calling, chatting, playing and sending message more than before. And I knew that boy who’s like a Carson is better because I could feel he cared about me.

From this experience, I still can’t get why boys change like that, maybe some girls does it as boys. And I want to ask you which type do you like more?

3rd Independent Reading Response

In the hospital, the Ice Cream Day, when Kathleen and her two of friends were painting on children’s face, Corson who likes Kathleen suddenly came to her. Kathleen was shocked because Corson didn’t even call her so she didn’t expect that he would come to see her. While Kathleen and Corson were talking each other, Darla who was painted on his face by Kathleen, asked them “Do you like each other?” Corson honestly answered he likes her and asked him why he asked it. Then the boy said “Because her face is all red”.

When I read this, it made me grin because I had same experience with it. Actually I’m kind of a secret keeper, so I don’t want to share this story but I can tell you guys a bit about it.

When I went back to Japan, one of my best friends invited me to play together so I was waiting for him in front of the kindergarten where we were used to go. I knew he wouldn’t come on time as usual so I went in there to talk with teacher who was my class room teacher. While we were talking, a lot of children who are her new classmates came to see us. Suddenly somebody pulled my back hair lightly and I heard a familiar voice of him “Hey, Noriko. I haven’t seen you for a long time. How are you?” It made me surprised because I didn’t notice he was just behind me.

As you know, children always ask whatever they want innocently. Then one of the little girls asked me “Are you his girlfriend? Do you stay together all the time?”
What a precocious child that what I thought. It made me embarrass and I felt my face was burning a bit so I turned my back on him then I whispered little girl what was the trueth and also to ask him about it later when I’m not around him.

Somehow my experience and what Kathleen experienced are connected.

2nd Independent Reading Response

Kathleen went a birthday party for Carson who invited her to the party with her friends, Holly and Raina. Holly wanted to go a birthday party so she might play in the huge pool but her father found out a white-bikini which she bought secretly. Of course he got angry and he said it’s too early to wear it because she is just fifteen years old. After that, he decided Holly to not go to the party. Holly got angry but on the next day is Father’s Day. Even though she got angry at him, she gives him some present for him.

This reminds me my father because he always complained what I do. When I wanted to go SEASAC baseball tournament at Myanmar, I need to get admission from my father so I asked him. However, he said now Myanmar is dangerous, and it was important time for me because I had to prepare for applying Japanese university. I argued with him a lot and finally I couldn’t go there so I was so upset at him. Soon after, Father’s Day came but I didn’t do/say anything for him. So I felt my experience is same as Holly’s but my act is worse than her.

1st Independent Reading Response

There is a main character named Kathleen.
She has sick mother and she need wheelchair to move around.
However, sometimes she feels annoy to her
because of her mother.

This reminds me when I was about 6-year-old.
I had a grandfather who always rode wheelchair
to move around just like Kathleen’s mother.
I remember that I wanted to lead him in the garden for
taking a walk but I was too weak to lead him
so my grandmother always led him instead of me
and I just followed them.
I made a promise to him when I grow up,
I would lead him to take a walk.
However now he had gone and
I can’t lead him anymore
so I feel jealous of Kathleen
because her mother is still alive.

*The Reasons Why I Chose the Book*

For Independent Reading Response
I started reading a book named
"Angels in Pink: Kathleen's Story" by Lurlene McDanie.

Actually, I chose "The Rise of the Black Wolf" by Derek Benz at first but after I read few pages, I noticed that it was the second series of another book which I hadn’t read yet, so I changed to “Angel in Pink”.
The reason why I chose it is that I read summary which is on the back of the book and I felt I had better read it because this book is about volunteering in the hospital where I particularly don’t want to stay/visit. I have never thought that I want to have job in hospital either volunteer at there.

Also, there are 3 main characters who are girls volunteers in the hospital and I expect that those girls are going to have problem in this story like breaking friendship or love-relationship which makes me more interest to read.^^
